The following is a list of road projects in Okeechobee County:

Posted 4/12/24: LOFTON ROAD PROJECT - PHASE I - ROAD DESIGN
The County has begun the design and engineering phase for the Lofton Road Improvement Project, which is a $7.1 Million project that is funded through a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) grant. This project will include needed roadway safety and drainage improvements to Lofton Road, from the US Highway 98 west to the Railroad Tracks, approx. ½ mile from the Kissimmee River.

Those who utilize this roadway will begin to see crews in the project area (i.e., survey, etc.) to assist with the design and engineering for this important safety project. No lane closures are expected but crews may be working near the travel lane. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the work zone.

The design and engineering phase of this project is expected to be completed by Spring 2025 (subject to weather conditions and other variables).

The bidding of this project and the start of construction is expected to begin by Fall/Winter 2025 (subject to weather conditions, bidding approval, and other variables).

The County will continue to provide updates on the Lofton Road Improvement Project within the Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners website – www.okeechobeecountyfl.gov – as well as on our various social media sites. Once construction is approved, signage will be installed within the area to notify the community of road work beginning.

The proposed design/engineering phase of this 5.189 mile project includes: contract administration, management services, construction engineering inspection services, quality acceptance reviews of all work associated with the development, preparation of the contract plans and construction of the resurfacing and associated improvements.

Some of the major improvements that are proposed within this project include:

. Milling and Resurfacing or Overlaying the existing travel lanes according to County specifications

. Pavement and shoulder widening, as appropriate

. Construct roadway improvements, as identified in approved plans

. Furnish and install drainage improvements

. Provide signing and pavement markings

Note: All services performed would be in accordance with all applicable Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) manuals, guidelines and specifications.

Posted: 11/30/23: Driveway pipe replacement and drainage work: Pine Ridge Park area - Single lane closure (one-lane access) PROJECT COMPLETED.

Start Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2023
End Date: Thursday, December 21, 2023

Location: Pine Ridge Park Area-This project will involve driveway pipe replacement and drainage work with partial lane closures on NE 28th Ave (Ellerbee Rd), NE 29th Ter, NE 30th Ave, NE 31st Ter and NE 11th Lane. The single-lane closures are necessary to allow equipment to replace driveway pipes and conduct drainage work.

This project is being completed by the Okeechobee County Public Works Department - Road & Bridge Division, which is expected to provide cost savings to our taxpayers.

Drivers are urged to follow the directions of the flag men, drive with caution and plan ahead to allow for more time to pass through the area as the traffic volume on surrounding streets may be higher than usual.

Message boards are going to be placed in the project area to alert drivers of the work zones and provide updates on work progress.

2023 ANNUAL COUNTYWIDE ROADWAY RESURFACING (PAVING) PROJECT
PROJECT COMPLETED

ANNUAL COUNTYWIDE ROADWAY RESURFACING (PAVING) PROJECT

Okeechobee County and our contracted paving vendor, C.W. Roberts Contracted, Inc., have scheduled the County’s annual road paving project to begin on Monday, August 14, 2023 and is expected to be completed by September 2023. The list of all roadways, intersections and road cuts that were approved by the Board of County Commissioners to be paved are attached.

Please note that the approved paving schedule may change depending on weather over this expected project time period.

Drivers are urged to take caution and plan ahead to allow for more time to pass through the area as the traffic volume on surrounding streets may be higher than usual.

Road construction, drainage work: Partial Road closure (one-lane access) at NW 344th Trail
PROJECT COMPLETED

Location: NW 344th Trail
Time frame: Monday, April 25, 2022, at 7:30 AM to Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 5:00 PM (weather permitting).

Okeechobee County has scheduled a partial road closure (one-lane access will be provided) at
NW 344th Trail, to replace the existing drainage pipe to improve storm water drainage within the
area. Traffic is planned to be provided with one-lane access on NW 344th Trail for the duration
of the project.

This project is being completed by our County Public Works Department - Road & Bridge
Division, which is expected to provide a cost savings to our taxpayers.

Drivers are urged to follow the directions of the flag men, drive with caution and plan ahead to
allow for more time to pass through the area as the traffic volume on surrounding streets may
be higher than usual.

PROJECT COMPLETED

Location: NE 342nd Trail
Time frame: Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7:30AM to Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 5:00PM (weather permitting).

Okeechobee County has scheduled a road closure at NE 342^nd Trail between NE 4^th Drive and NE 7^th Drive, to replace the existing drainage pipe to improve stormwater drainage within the area. Traffic is planned to be detoured to NW 366^th Trail (a/k/a Osowa Road) for the duration of the road closure.
