Mission Statement

The mission of the County Attorney is to protect the legal interests of Okeechobee County by providing comprehensive and quality legal services by representation to the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator, and Department Heads.

The County Attorneys provide advice to ensure compliance with state law and local ordinances, and to minimize or limit exposure of the County to financial liability. The County Attorneys represent the Board in all board meetings, litigation brought by or against the County, including civil lawsuits, administrative proceedings, county court hearings on animal control or code enforcement and appeals.  The County Attorneys draft (or review for legal sufficiency) County contracts, leases, and ordinances.  The County Attorneys do not make policy decisions or undertake fiscal review.
