Purpose

The Okeechobee County Family Health/Healthy Start Coalition, Inc. is part of a statewide network responsible for planning and implementing services for pregnant women and infants. The Coalition is made up of citizens interested in promoting healthy pregnancies and healthy birth outcomes for Okeechobee County Residents.

The Coalition is an active non-profit corporation being incorporated on June 18, 1993. The Company address is 1132 South Parrott Avenue, Okeechobee, FL 34974. This Committee is considered a "B" Committee.  The Coalition is authorized under the authority of the Department of Health (DOH) to implement the provisions of Florida's Healthy Start legislation within Okeechobee.

Membership Detail

The membership of the Coalition shall consist of the BOD,
authorized Voting Members, Non-voting Members and Alternate Voting Members in the absence
of a Voting Member. The membership of the Coalition shall represent health care providers, the
recipient community and the community at large, and shall be representative of the racial, ethnic
and gender composition of the community, examples can include:

1. Consumers of family planning, primary care or prenatal care services.
2. DOH or County Public Health Department.
3. Migrant and community health centers if their service area contains any part of the Coalition’s service area.
4. Hospitals, birthing centers and other providers of maternity and/or infant services to the population included in the Coalition’s service area.
5. Local maternal and infant health advocacy interest groups and community organizations.
6. Okeechobee County and municipal governments.
7. Social service organizations.
8. Local education communities.
9. Community organizations who represent or serve the target population.
10. Children’s Services Council of Okeechobee County.
11. Local business communities.

Members serve two year terms

• Meetings are held monthly and dates are determined by the Board
• Meetings are conducted in the meeting room located at the Brown Cow Sweetery, 103 SW Park Street, Okeechobee, Fl. 34974
