Okeechobee County contracts with SAFEbuilt of Florida, LLC. to operate and manage its Building Department services.

Important things to remember:

When Submitting A Permit Application

  • Effective 4/1/16 per Florida State Statute 713.135 (6) (a), all permit applications applied for must be signed and notarized at time of submittal.  For permit applications submitted electronically, the following additional statement must be included in the submittal:  "Under penalty of perjury, I declare that all the information contained in this building permit application is true and correct."   Click here to view the Florida Statute: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0713/Sections/0713.135.html

  • A Site Plan is required showing setbacks, fire separation, overhead and underground utilities, septic tanks

  • Contractors must be registered with the County and have current liability and workers compensation insurance

  • Three sets of construction drawings are required for non-residential work and two sets for residential 

    Prior to First Inspection

  • Notice of Commencement (NOC) for jobs with a value greater than $2,500.00

  • Preliminary Pest Certificate

  • Road & Bridge Approval for Right-of-Way/Driveway Connection Permit

  • Preliminary Soil Compaction (FAX copy)

  • Form Board Survey (if applicable)

Prior to Final Inspection

  • Final Pest Certificate

  • Final Septic Approval

  • Approved Road & Bridge Inspection

  • Original Soil Compaction

  • Finish Floor Elevation or Elevation Certificate

  • Blower Door Test

Prior to Issuance of Certificate of Occupancy

  • Solid Waste and Fire Assessment fees must be paid

  • Fire Fighter Safety Building Marking System emblem must be installed
