Job Description - Summer Day Camp Counselor (x5)

8 weeks in the summer - $15.48 / hr (40 hours per week)

Assists in planning, initiating, organizing, and directing an extensive and diversified summer day camp program suited to the needs of participants and potential participants such as the Summer Food Program and planned programs for approximately 50-90 children. Reports directly to the Center Manager. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all staff and volunteers in the absence of the Center Manager, such as       recreation leaders and specialists (sports, music, nature, etc.) and any other key staff at          the site.
  • Organizes, promotes, teaches, and conducts a variety of recreation activities such as arts   and crafts, sports and games, music, dance, drama, nature study, special features and events.
  • Plans a variety of activities catering to different age groups and varying degrees of participant skills.   
  • Aids in the preparation of manuals, rules, announcements, bulletins and promotional materials.   
  • Reports to the center manager on activities, participation, plans, problems and needs; recommends action, and carries out policies and objectives of the agency.
  • Maintains appropriate records, inventories, reports and information.
  • Promotes, organizes and stimulates good relationships with agencies serving the area, in   determining the recreation needs, interests and appropriate improvements.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or acceptable equivalency
  • American Red Cross and First Aid Certification
  • Recreation, physical education majors and/or childcare experience preferred.
  • Must have experience as a leader in a variety of recreation activities and/or in rendering service in a recreation activity situation.
